Miami Newspaper Reveals Wedding Price Point Corresponding to Most Divorces

Some Miami couples and individuals may ask themselves this question: Does a bigger wedding mean a longer marriage? Indeed, while many Miami brides and grooms-to-be in this modern day and age may be thinking about a budget wedding, a destination wedding, or simply a courthouse blessing, others may be going all-out to get the wedding of their childhood dreams. But does an expensive wedding with all the trappings – the ceremony, fine food, a live DJ, professional photographers, entertainment, and designer attire and rings – necessarily mean a couple’s vows will be “forever”? According to the Miami Herald, the answer is no.
Study Points Soon-to-Be Spouses to Lower-Cost Nuptials
According to the Miami Herald, and a study conducted by scientists who interviewed 3,151 heterosexual couples, couples headed down the aisle should save their hard-earned cash, and opt for a less costly, smaller wedding if they want their “I do’s” to be long-lasting. The study revealed that couples who spend more than $20,000 on their wedding are less likely to stay together, and more likely to have a marriage that ends early, in divorce. In addition to identifying a specific wedding “price point” that may signal an early dissolution of marriage, the study also found that couples that spent between $2,000 and $4,000 on an engagement ring are also more likely to have marriages that ultimately end in divorce. Conversely, couples who spend between $500 and $2,000 on an engagement ring are more than 1.3 times less likely to get divorced in the end, according to the study. The interesting and revealing findings suggest that more money does not necessarily mean a happier, longer marriage, and, in fact, couples who spend less money on things like engagement rings and weddings have longer lasting power.
