The night before she was killed, Gama began to look into her divorce rights under Florida laws online, entering into Google, “Just found out my husband cheated on me years ago.” The next morning, Gama searched Google results for “How does alimony work in Florida?” and used an online “alimony calculator.” Then, just before she was murdered, in the morning, she googled how to file a police report, and how to call for emergency services online. Hours after her last search, Gama was stabbed to death by her husband 28 times.
In addition to brutally killing his wife, Aponte attacked and killed the couple’s 3-year-old son, stabbing him four times in the neck, and leaving him for dead face-down in a pool on the couple’s property. Aponte admitted to the murders, stating to a nurse “I did it,” and then laughing. Aponte spared a 4-month-old baby that was inside of the couple’s home. He was ultimately charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
